🌈 The Park of Colors – A Lost Opportunity for Paphos

When The Park of Colors first opened in Paphos, it felt like a dream come true. A colorful, modern, and open space — free for everyone to enjoy. Families, children, athletes, and visitors all saw it as a new heartbeat of the city. A place full of energy, play, and togetherness.

But sadly, that dream didn’t last long.

After the opening, the park’s management and marketing team decided to add fees to use the sports courts — football, basketball, and tennis. What was once meant to be open and accessible for all became a paid zone, closing the doors to many local residents who simply wanted to play, exercise, or have fun.

And then came another strange decision: the tennis court was destroyed after just two months — replaced by two padel courts. While padel might be the new trend, it was painful to see a perfectly good tennis court disappear so soon. It showed, once again, how quick decisions were made without truly thinking about the long-term benefit for the community.

This is a pity for our city.

If the courts had remained free, The Park of Colors could have become one of the most vibrant and successful public spaces in Cyprus. A place where everyone — locals, tourists, children, and athletes — could gather every day. A park full of life, movement, and positive energy.

Now, it often feels quiet, except for special events. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

I truly hope the decision-makers will rethink their approach. A public park should serve all people, not just a few.
